The US Army, and specifically 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas has awarded a 1,000 drone solicitation to the Rapid Reconfigurable Systems Line.
The 1st Army Innovation Challenge served to evaluate various Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) to identify one platform with the best combination of modular, ity, scalability, reusability, repairability, cost, and production rates in order to serve as the innovation, training, and operations platform of the 1st Infantry Division.
The Army Transformation Initiative, published earlier this year, urges all Active-Duty Divisions to pursue and procure 1,000 Small Unmanned Aerial Systems in accordance with Administrative goals such as the Unleashing American Drone Dominance Executive Order and subsequent Secretary of Defense memorandum. This policy seeks to encourage Divisions to perform their own evaluations.
Following a lengthy evaluation process including proposals, demonstrations, competitions, and more, the Rapid Reconfigurable Systems Line was chosen for meeting all key performance criteria at the lowest cost of all competitors. 1,000 RRSLs ship in 30 days on average and the 1st Infantry Division will receive these platforms soon.
1st Infantry Division will receive wireless First Person View quadcopters, fiber-enabled drones (RRSL-F) and VRTX Motherships.
